Every Day can be an Adventure

In order to add some random spontaneity into my day to day life I've decided to embark upon an adventure a day!  It doesn't matter how small or big said adventure is, the only aim is that I will find myself exploring places I didn't know existed, sampling cakes and coffee's from hidden gems, or meeting people I would have never ever met.  I've also decided to blog about my mini adventures, so that whoever stumbles upon this blog can see what I've been up to or recommend places for me to try.

The idea came to me a few days ago when instead of taking my usual route home I took a little detour and ended up walking along a path running alongside the Water of Leith where I met these beautiful swans,

I can't remember a time when I've seen a swan followed by it's fuzzy gray young.  It was such a peaceful moment and right it the middle of a city!

I feel that living and working in a city can sometimes seem to consume you and it is very easy to become a machine almost, where you wake, work, eat and sleep, only to do the exact same the next day.  I have succumbed to this in the past and once you fall down this monotonous trap it can be very hard to get back out again.  The idea of having a little adventure a day won't of course alleviate this altogether but it will help you remember something in the day that will make it a little more than "just another day" and doing something different (even if it's just choosing a different coffee shop to get your morning coffee from) could open doors and possibilities you never even knew existed.

However, living in Scotland can have it's "Adventure restrictions".  More often than not the heavens open and it pours down.  But that just means you have to get creative.  Being stuck indoors doesn't mean that you have no choice but to sit on the sofa and mope around.  Take today for instance, it was miserable outside so after raiding the cupboards for snacks I came across coffee.  I did consider making myself a giant mug but after already having two cups today so far I figured that one more would probably have me bouncing off the walls.  Instead, I remembered using coffee to make pirate treasure maps when I was little.  So yes, at the age of 23 I decided that this was indeed a great way to spend an hour.  And I'm pleased to say that it worked a treat!  After I had my lovely coffee smelling (the smell tends to linger for a bit so if you're really not a coffee fan I suggest using tea) I got out a quill and ink set I bought on impulse from a gift shop attached to a French castle - I defy you not to succumb to the same impulse! - and wrote a letter to my Mum.

I'm sure that when she get's it it will brighten up her day and bring a huge smile to her face.  Though, I must say the temptation to make a pirate treasure map......

So why don't you try it?  You have nothing to loose, go see for yourself and make an adventure!
